From reactive to proactive: How elite sports organizations can take control of their digital development

Stratigo Sports Business is now up and running for real. This autumn, we've stepped in as an independent partner to three Swedish elite sports organizations at the highest national level, across three different sports.

The problem we see: vendors are driving the process

If you're part of the leadership of a club, federation or league in Swedish elite sport, this probably sounds familiar:

Every week, new system vendors call with revolutionary solutions that promise to change "everything". CRM systems, ticketing systems, membership platforms, analytics tools, communication solutions. They all have the best features, and life will be easy once everything is in place.

The result is that many in sport:

  • Buy systems based on the seller's pitch, not the organization's actual needs
  • End up with a patchwork of solutions that don't talk to each other
  • Spend far too much time on manual work, export/import and custom workarounds
  • Lock data into platforms that are hard to leave
  • Ultimately fail to activate and make use of the features

The root problem is simple: organizations react to incoming sales pitches instead of proactively driving their own digital agenda. They make decisions based on persuasive presentations rather than actual needs and long-term strategy.

In other words, the vendors take control of the process, and the organizations are left to live with the consequences.

Put your organization in the driver's seat

The strategic way to succeed is a structured RFP (Request for Proposal) process that changes the game. Suddenly, you're the one setting the agenda, defining the rules and controlling the evaluation. Few organizations do this. Most don't.

Three organizations that want to take control

The three organizations we're now working with have one thing in common: the courage to recognize their limitations. They want to take the driver's seat. For all three, this is about strategic investments that fundamentally change their competitiveness through control over data, accelerated growth and new revenue models.

Our role: sitting on your side of the table

Stratigo is not a system vendor. We don't sell licenses and we take no kickbacks.

That's a deliberate choice.

In our ongoing engagements across three different sports, our work includes:

  • Current-state analysis and needs assessment: A thorough analysis of the current situation to identify untapped potential and prioritize the right initiatives for maximum business value. We run a structured analysis process that maps the organization's current digital maturity, identifies concrete areas for improvement and prioritizes initiatives based on value creation and feasibility.
  • An RFP process for procuring and implementing new systems, structured as follows:
  • Requirements specification (current-state analysis, needs assessment, prioritization, market analysis)
  • RFP document (technical requirements, functional requirements, evaluation criteria, key questions)
  • RFP process (outreach to potential vendors, response handling based on the RFP document, evaluation material, negotiation)
  • Decision (presentation of the evaluation material, our recommendation, decision)
  • Implementation (technical implementation, data migration, configuration)
  • Activation (staff training, communication, go-live, support)
  • Continuous development & operations (process optimization, improvements, maintenance and support, data-driven marketing)
  • Data-driven marketing with a focus on automated campaigns
  • Cross-segmentation and cross-selling to accelerate sales

What happens next

Over the coming months, we'll be able to share more about our first three engagements:

  • How we structured the work in each engagement
  • Concrete results and lessons learned
  • What other clubs, leagues and federations can take away

Your choices define your future

Every mis-investment, every underused system, every half-hearted activation is a choice.

Control has always been yours. Now it's time to take it.
